This is the personal website of Jamie Barras, a UK-based academic with a background in Chemistry and Engineering. Having worked on three continents, Dr Barras is acutely aware of how the exchange of ideas enriches both visitor and host. In his personal research, he seeks to show how expatriates and immigrants have contributed to the cultural life of the UK and what they have gained in return. It was not always a fair exchange: people are complicated and sometimes live messy lives. But that is what makes their stories worth telling.
